Ranjan Roy is one of the rare tallented unparallel traditional SITAR players of India.
At the age of five years, he started learning Sitar,under the guidance of his mother,Mrs. Susmita Roy ( M.Mus, Gold Medalist).At the age of 10+ years,he created his first dubut at live performane in sitar with a very rare & deep elegant style of Indian Classical Music,known as the "Dhrupad style".
Ranjan Roy completed his B.Mus, M.Mus, B.Ed ( Gold Medalist ) from B.V.B ( Allahabad ). Maestro Pradip Nag ( All India Radio ) gave his valuable traditional indian classical music teachings to him.
Ranjan Roy, after a live performance, at Varanasi, was honoured with the title "Maharaj" meaning the King.
Ranjan Roy is a very successful live performer & travels through out the world to perform in his Sitar.Beside traditional music, he researches on various forms of modern & Ancient Music, and thus Ranjan Roy is a great maestro of fusions & has done many live performances of fusions in Indian Classical Music, with the Western Modern & Classical Music.
There is a myth about Maestro Ranjan Roy, that when Maestro Ranjan Roy plays his Sitar in any live performances,then at most of his performances the audience cannot sit relaxingly for majority of time..sometimes the audience remains pin drop silent hearing his taans and spinning of notes and sometime the audience autometically keeps clapping with the interval of few minutes..where ever Maestro Ranjan Roy plays his Sitar,he makes the audience feel his presence,very prominently.
In India, the CDs of Ranjan Roy are selling successfully through out the country. The recent CD of him was recorded at the famous Prime Studios, Kolkata.5 more albums are one the way to released.Maestro Ranjan Roy is currently an artist of All India Radio (A.I.R Kolkata).
